Back and Neck Pain
Back Pain
Back pain is a major cause of ill health; it one of the most common reasons why people see a chiropractor. There are many types of back pain with different causes. The bones of the back have shock absorbing pads between them called disks. Ligaments support the joints. Muscles that support and move the spine attach onto the bones with tendons. Nerves leave the spine from spaces between the bones. All of these structures can generate pain and other symptoms if they are injured or as we get older. Compressed nerves in the lower back can cause sciatica; pain that radiates down the leg, sometimes accompanied with numbness, tingling, pins & needles and weakness in the leg and foot. Your fitness levels, job, stress levels and previous injuries can all increase your risk of developing back pain.
The chiropractic clinic examines your back to find out which structures are the cause of your back pain. Chiropractic and medical acupuncture treatments relieve pain and prevent it from reoccurring.
Neck Pain
Muscle tightness and strains, and joint inflammation can all create neck pain. Nerve compression in the neck is less common. Degenerative changes in the neck are commonplace as we age; associated stiffness and muscle pain are usually the cause of pain. Clinical assessment and testing before treatments finds the cause of the pain.
A treatment plan of chiropractic care and medical acupuncture aimd to relieve pain and increase range of movement of the neck. Chiropractic care including rehabilitation exercises and postural advice can help improve neck function and pain. Advice and education to help understand how pain works, and how to take control of pain, can be fundamental to long-term pain management.
