Sciatica

Nerves leave the spaces between the bones in the lower back and join together to form the sciatic nerve. The nerve roots in the lower back can be compressed and irritated by inflammation and the shock absorbing pads or disks in the spine. When this happens, pain radiates down the length of sciatic nerve and symptoms such as numbness, tingling and pins & needles are often felt in the lower leg or foot. The pain and nerve symptoms are collectively called sciatica. Sciatica and lower back pain can happen at the same time. Although sciatica usually starts in the lower back, sometimes the nerve is aggravated away from the spine.
